This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Galileo IOV satellites. Artwork of two In-Orbit Validation (IOV) satellites for the Galileo satellite navigation network orbiting the Earth. The Galileo satellites, being built and launched by the European Union and the European Space Agency, will form part of a network of 30 satellites orbiting the Earth. This network will be used for car, train and aircraft guidance, rescue services, and road use taxation. It is scheduled to begin operating by 2014. There are four IOV satellites, with the first two scheduled for launch on 20 October 2011. This artwork shows two fully deployed IOVs, with solar arrays providing power.
