Mont St Michel in Normandy, a region on the English Channel in western France. The abbey on the island town was built in the eight century Mont St Michel is one of France's most visited attractions and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the 19th century, its population was over 1,000 people. In the 2009 census, just 44 people lived there.
