The Slaney, which enters the county on the northwest, and crosses it ina southeasterly direction to thebay of Wexford, presents a suc-cession of fine views, to whichthe remains of antiquity andmodern villas and mansions addeffective and contrasting ele-ments of scenic interest. Thesea-coast presents no shelterfrom Arklow to Wexford harbor,which, though capacious inside,was obstructed by a sand-bar,the deepening of which, how-ever, has been effected. Passing the Tuskar Light, the mariners guiding-star to the Irish Channel,and doubling Carnsore Point, the southeastern extremity of Ireland, the SalteeIslands come in view. A sand-bank seven miles long extends westward fromCarnsore to Crossfarnogue Point—pierced only by two narrow inlets, whichadmit the tide-water to and from the sea-lakes of Ladys Island and unbroken sand-bank of
