Killer sponge growing on a weak coral colony. Sponges are simple multicellular animals, most species of which are marine. The internal skeleton (endoskeleton) of a sponge is formed from structures called spicules. Killer sponge is a term used for several forms of carnivorous sponge. Photographed in the Laccadive Sea, Maldives.
