We suggest that the evolutionary history of the pallidus complex involved independent invasions of ancestral leptodactylus-like stocks into geographically isolated ground- water reservoirs associated with the Cody Scarp in the Woodville and Upper Suwannee areas. Subsequent evolution led to the differentiation of the horstiorcinus branch in the St. Marks-WakuUa-Wacissa drainages and the pallidus branch in the Suwannee basin. Lineage 6—Hobbs (1942) and Hobbs and Franz (1986) pointed out the similarities between Troglocambarus maclanei and members of the Seminolae Group in the genus Procambarus. They felt that these features indicated a evolutionary relationship between the two.
