The kind of person who acts thus does notread newspaper editorials. It is not directly,then, that we can attack this objectionable ele-ment. The Holiday Spirit It is a joy to realize a change in the tone ofpeople occasionally. People Whom we find apleasure in small groups often prove irritablein numbers by the thousand. That is one of thegreatest difficulties in college life, perhaps. Al-though we may count a greater part of the stud-ent body our friends, casual ones, at least, wedont always enjoy the throng of them when wehave to live with all of them every hour. So it is with real relief that we welcomea change that comes at a time of relaxation orpleasure or anticipation. We think it not im-agination that we see beneath the exterior of thepersonality of the crowd, a radiance, a glow ofcoming joy that expresses itself in renewed hap-piness and unwonted unselfishness. True it is that exams are between us andthe joyous occasion, but even they cannot ef-fectively conceal the holiday spirit that is mak-ing itself more a part of us as the passing ofeach day brings us nearer that happiest seasonof the year—the
