The 1999 Orissa cyclone, also known as Cyclone 05B, and Paradip cyclone, was the deadliest Indian storm since 1971. It hit India on 29th October as a 250 km/h cyclone. It caused the deaths of over 10,000 people, and severe damage in its path of destruction. The storm surge of 8 meters struck the coast of Orissa, and traveled up to 20 km inland.
