Atomic emission spectroscopy analysis. Researcher preparing samples for spectroscopic analysis. At left is an autosampler that will load samples into the spectrometer (right) for analysis. The machine at right is a spectrometer used for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), also called inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). The sample is ionised in a plasma and the elements present are identified by the characteristic electromagnetic radiation they emit. This is an Optima 8300 ICP-OES spectrometer from Elmer Perkins.
