This house has had a remarkable growth, and has jumped from small begin-nings to results of great magnitude. This flourishing and representative concernwas established 40 years ago by Mr. Wilham Ciilmour, father of the present projirietors, and conducted as a retail grocery. Afterwards it became known as T.(iilmour & Co., who for 20 years carried on the wholesale and retail grocerybusiness. Their retail store was the largest of its kind in Brockville, but thewholesale trade soon assumed such proportions that they found it necessary todevote their entire attention to it, and the retail store was discontinued. Theirtravellers became known all o\er the Dominion and an extensive and successfultrade was carried on until the spring of 1S94, when, upon the retirement of theother members of the firm the present company was organized under the name ofGilmour i: Co , the firm being composed of James H. and Albert (lilmour. The. lines of goods carried are of the most complete and comprehensive character,embracing foreign and domestic groceries of every description, a splendid array oftable luxuries (imported direct by the firm). In staple groceries the concern excelsin the extent, purity and wholesomeness of its goods, the teas, coffees, sugars,etc. being selected with extraordinary care ; fully guaranteed, and, as is the invari-able rule, sold at the smallest possible margin of profit. In no department is any-thing of an inferior character handled, the firm aiming to supply its trade with thechoicest and best goods that can be procured, and as a natural consequence, it hasestablished a first-class connection, which is satisfied with
