St. Georgskirche, Oberzell, Reichenau, Germany
This church is one of the most complete examples of Carolingian architecture to have survived anywhere in Europe. Reichenau, in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, is a small island, connected to the mainland by a causeway, It juts out into Lake Bodensee and comprises three small villages, each with its own church, which were formerly monasteries, already established in the ninth centurty. It enjoys a very mild climate and is famous today for its extensive horticulture and market gardening. It's tranquil and peaceful atmosphere attract many tourists during the summer.
