This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product European Remote Sensing (ERS-1) satellite, illustration. ERS-1 was the European Space Agency's (ESA) first Earth-observing satellite program using a polar orbit. Its instruments included altimeters, radars and radiometers. It was launched on 17 July 1991 and operated until 10 March 2000. It was succeeded by ERS-2 and later by Envisat.
