Turkey, Aphrodisias - Portico of Tiberius, portrait head in the decorative frieze


The Portico of Tiberius is the south portico at the agora. It was constructed in the first half of the 1st century AD, during the reign of Emperor Tiberius, had has beautiful friezes and inscriptions honoring the emperor. An impressive series of frieze blocks decorated with handsome masks, individualized or divine faces, joined with garlands, was also found.
