In 1922 Edward Bok created a sanctuary for birds and people in Florida The grounds were landscaped by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr At the top of the sanctuary Bok added a tower which was dedicated in 1929 by President Calvin Coolidge Designed by Milton B Medary the 205 foot tall tower is constructed of marble and coquina and houses one of the world s finest carillons
