Valley con- tinues scarce and there is not much prospect of any large deliveries. This flower maintains its price, despite the fact that the quality is not of the best. Eoses are improving in quality and in 'flome grades are more plentiful. White roses are scarce and at times it is hard to get enough good ones to fill orders. Orchids are scarce and the price soars, but their absence is not of any consequence, as there is only an occasional call. A few of the new crop carnations are coming in. Dahlias in the different colors are im- proving in quality and increasing in qufintity. Various Notes. K. W. Franke, manager for Bruffy & Co., Charlottesville, Va., and Mrs. Franke, were visitors last week. Samuel Simmons, who for many years has been head gardener for the Joseph Leiter estate here, has resigned that position and, it is said, is about to en- gage in the florists' busines
