Space Shuttle Atlantis

Space shuttle cargo bay. View of the cargo bay during space shuttle mission STS-66 showing the ATLAS-3 laboratory (lower center). ATLAS-3 (Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science) was used to study the effect of solar radiation on the Earth's atmosphere. It also monitored the seasonal closing of the Antarctic ozone hole, and its effect on northern hemisphere conditions. STS-66 remained in orbit for 11 days after launching on 3rd November 1994. It also carried the CRISTA (Cryogenic Infrared Spectrometer Telescope for Atmosphere) module, which measured variations of conditions in the upper atmosphere.
