The weird red cage fungus (Clathrus ruber) in the Clathraceae family (France). Found in the surroundings of the golf of Hossegor, that mushroom appears - when young - as a white, reticulate and ball-shaped egg. Then, it produces a hollow latticed structure of a bright pink-red then orange colour. Having a foetid scent, it attracts flies which take away its spores in their movements. Le bizarre clathre rouge ou clathre grillagé (Clathrus ruber) de la famille des Clathraceae (France). Trouvé dans les environs du golf d'Hossegor, ce champignon - quand il est jeune - apparaît d'abord sous la forme d'une boule réticulée blanche. Il forme ensuite une cage grillagée creuse de couleur brillante rose-rouge puis orangée. Son odeur fétide attire des mouches qui emportent ses spores au loin lors de leurs déplacements.
