Ranuce Ier Farnèse

Ranuce Ier Farnèse, in italian Ranuccio I Farense, was an italian nobleman born on the 28th March 1569 in Parma (Italy), and died on the 5th March 1622. He was the fourth Duke of Parma and Piacenza from 1592 until his death. He was the son of Alexandre Farnèse and Mary of Portugal. He evoked the ferocity of his forebearer Pierre Louis Farnèse. Under his reign, Aleotti's famous theatre of Parma was built, modelled on the ancient Roman theatre designs. Painting by Cesare Aretusi.
