Mud volcano bubbles in a vacant field in the southern end of the Salton Sea area of California

Mudpot or mud pool can be a hot spring or fumarole consisting of a pool of bubbling mud. Mudpot form in high temperature geothermal areas. The thickness of the mud usually changes along with the season. The mud takes the form of a viscous, often bubbling, slurry. As the boiling mud is often squirted over the brims of the mudpot, forming a mud cone, in the appearance of a volcano. It builds to 3-5 feet.
