He negotiated many important realty transfers and was actuated by amost progressive spirit in all that he undertook, making his business serve the doublepurpose of providing for his own support and at the same time constituting a source inthe upbuilding and improvement of the city. He was widely known for his honestyand integrity. Mr. Parry wfs married on the 7th of November, 1894, to Miss Julia E. Hutchens,a daughter of Wllliani Burch and Mary E. (Stone) Hutchens, the former a native of. CHAUNCEY PARRY UTAII SINCE STATEHOOD 427 South Carolina, while the latter was born in England. Her father came to Utah in 1851,making his way to Salt Lake, and in the same year Mrs. Parrys mother crossed theplains, being then fourteen years of age. She drove an ox team all the way on the longjourney over the stretches of hot sand and through the mountain passes to Utah. Mrs. Hutchens were married in Salt Lake on the 2d of November, 1854. and theybecame the parents of eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. On leavingSalt Lake they removed to Slaterville, where they resided for a short time and thenbecame residents of Ogden, taking up their abode on West Second street, where purchased ranch property which he conducted to the time of his death. In1853 he went on a mission to Fort Supply and assisted in the erection of the earlybuildings of Salt Lake. He was counselor to Bishop Daniel F. Thomas in the Lynnwa
