Oriental Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor) Agamid Dragon Image Maldives

This photo shows a close up of a Oriental Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor) part of the Agamid family known as Dragons, this one was photographed on a beach in the Maldives by chance as I waited for the sun to set. This cold blooded lizard is very mild mannered and quite small so it is certainly nothing to fear. Often seen in tropical paradise island areas it is widely distributed across Asia and is also found in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, India (including the Andaman Islands and particularly common in mainland India), Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Myanmar, Thailand, Western Malaysia, Maldives, Vietnam, Pulo Condore Island, South China (Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hongkong, Hainan Island), Indonesia (Sumatra), Mauritius (Reunion, Rodrigues). It has been introduced to Oman, Singapore, and United States. Even though he is cold blooded the warm colours from the yellow sand and this animals camouflage reminds us of these amazing beaches in the tropical climates around the world. The leaves, seeds and acorn also add a little texture to this photo and even a touch of the exotic. This wild animal is very fast when in his natural environment and this with his camouflage allows him to survive the tropical regions it inhabits.
