Kentrosaurus dinosaur, computer artwork. This 4-metre-long stegosaurid dinosaur is known from fossils discovered in Tanzania in the period 1910 to 1912. The fossils date from the Late Jurassic period, 145 to 160 million years ago. This dinosaur was herbivorous, feeding on plants and other vegetation. It is thought that the spines on its back and tail were used to defend against predators.
