Breeder and sportsman . tance. His dam isMyrtledale by Iran Alto 2:12* of the old hero Palo Alto2:08%, champion trotting stal-lion to high-wheel sulky; sec-ond dam Nettie Nutwood (damof Hillsdale 2:17% and gran-dam of Sterling McKinney2:06%), by Nutwood 2:18%(sire of ISO standard perform-ers and the dams of more than300); third dam b^- VickfsEthan Allen Jr. (sire of PrinceAllen 2:27), son of Ethan Allen2:25: fourth dam by William-sons Belmont. McMyrtle is a trotter, and avery promising one for theamount of work he has with only three monthstraining in 1907 trotted a milein 2:18*4 over the Santa Rosatrack, driven by Tom summer I broke and han-dled for a short time a numberof McMyrtles first foals, beingtwo-year-olds and yearlings, and all showed nice open trot-ting action and could trot athree-minute gait as soon assufficiently broken to drivestraight. Several of them with30 days work could show a2:40 gait, and there can be nodoubt that McMyrtle will makea sire of trotting speed, as. & might well be expected froma horse bred in such rich bloodlines. The Electioneers are a fam-ily of early trotters and IranAlto, sire of the dam of Mc-Myrtle, was a colt trotter andstake winner, and is a sire ofcolt trotters and stake win-ners, as was his sire beforehim. the great Palo Alto2:08%, and his grandsire Elec-tioneer was the greatest sireof extreme early speed theworld ever saw. McKinney onthe other hand is not noted asa sire of early speed, but hisget train on year after yearand make famous aged cam-paigners. The blending of theblood of McKinney and Elec-tioneer as it is in McMyrtleshould produce not only earlytrotting speed, but the abilityto train on and improve yearafter year. McMyrtle is abso-lutely sound, with perfectlimbs and feet of the finestquality, and if given the op-portunity would surely developinto a fast and game head Is perfectly balancedand his temperament unex-celled. I have some youngcolts and fillies by him out ofwell
