Sir Robert subsequentlyobtained for Calvert the office of clerk of the crown in theprovince of Connaught, Ireland. Calvert received an ap-pointment as clerk of the council in 1608, and in the follow-ing year took his seat in Parliament as member for 1617 he received from King Janus I. the honor ofknighthood, and in ion; he became Secretary of State.
