Satire on Tulip Mania, c. 1640, painted by Jan Brueghel the Younger (1601-1678), a Flemish Baroque painter, and the son of Jan Brueghel the Elder. Tulip mania occurred in the Dutch Golden Age during which contract prices for some bulbs of the recently introduced and fashionable tulip reached extraordinarily high levels and then dramatically collapsed.
