They bloom from early summer until frost in all sections of the country, succeeding in any sunny position in any kind of soil, but responding quickly to liberal treatment. For best results the beds should be spaded about two feet deep, and a generous amount of well-decayed manure of any kind thoroughly incorporated, and at all times freely watered. They are most effective when planted in masses of one variety, setting out the plants about two feet apart. To find the num- ber of plants required for any bed from 3 to 20 feet in diameter, see tables on page 119. They are also very effective when planted in mixed borders, where their long flowering season insures a constant display of color. All varieties have green foliage unless otherwise specified. NEIJV AND RARE CANNAS This set contains several varieties which have never been offered before, others that we have now been able to secure in sufficient quantities for the first time, and still others which, altbough previously offered, are still so scarce that few of our customers have had the opportunity to secure them. All are desirable acquisitions, introducing new tones of color and showing the highest development in form and habit. Centurian. A very free-flowering, upright, vigorous variety, with large trusses of deep orange-colored flowers held well above the foliage. Distinctly different from all the older sorts of this color, and unusually promising as an effective bedding plant; 5 feet. $ each; $ per doz. Cleopatra.
