Ground wasbroken on the 16th of July, 1894, at the corner of Wal-nut Street and Glasgow Road. The ground was thedonation of Thomas Rutter, Esq. A 30-foot lot adjoin-ing the original plot was later purchased from for the sum of $300. The cornerstone was laidon August 19, 1894, at 3 P. M. The services were incharge of Revs. Kepner and Kurtz. Bickel assisted inthe services. The first service held in the new edifice was theChristmas festival of the Sunday-school, December,1894. The first preaching service on the Sunday fol-lowing was conducted by Dr. Kurtz. The building was dedicated on Trinity Sunday,June 9, 1895. The dedicatory act was performed byRev. Kepner. Rev. J. L. Becker, , preached inGerman, and Rev. H. A. Weller, , in O. P. Smith, , as president of the Confer-ence, delivered a congratulatory address, and Rev. Bickel assisted in the services. The cost of building the chapel was approximately$8,500. Of this amount $ was contributed inlabor; the Ladies Aid and Sunday-school contributedin cash, respectively, $345 and $450.
