A South German triple-comb burgonet, circa 1540 - 50 With one-piece skull drawn-up to three prominent combs embossed with a dentil pattern, outwardly-flanged at the base to form a narrow neck-guard and at the front to form an up-turned rounded peak, pierced with pairs of stitch-holes throughout, roped in-turned edges, and fitted with a later pair of hinged cheek-pieces (plume-holder missing). Height 27 cm. Weight 1900 g. Burgonets of this type were intended to be worn with a textile cover leaving the combs exposed.
