The small engines may, in the mean time, be kept em-ployed in preventing the communication of the fire to the neighbor-ing buildings. The preceding proposals are only intended as rude suggestions, sofar to engage the attention of the curious, as either to improve theseimperfect hints, or to substitute in their room more effectual expe-dients for the readier extinguishing of fires.
