Nepal. Island Peak Trek. A visiting butcher demonstrates his skills to waiting Sherpa lady customers. Meat is a real treat for families in what is a basic vegetarian diet. The butcher has carried two whole leg loins of a Jak cow along the the animals liver from Lukla town several hours walk away visiting all the small communities until there is nothing left of the meat. Even the bones will be used to make soup-broth then later pounded to dust to provide fertiliser


The images in this collection are from a trek from Lukla airfield and town following the Dudh Kosi river and gorge to Island Peak in the Everest region in 2009.
