Saxon (C11th) wall panel of Christ enthroned in Majesty with a cross & blessing inside Holy Rood Church, Daglingworth, Gloucestershire, England, UK.

Late Saxon (C11th) wall panel of Christ enthroned in Majesty inside Holy Rood Church, Daglingworth, Gloucestershire, England, UK. Christ sits on a throne as ruler of the world, he holds a cross in his left hand, his right hand is raised giving the Latin form of blessing with thumb & next two fingers raised (representing the Trinity), the final two fingers folded down. One of three wall panels (stone slabs) by the same sculptor with figures carved in relief in the Syrian tradition. Christ in Majesty (Glory) was reset on the N wall of the N aisle after being re-discovered in 1850 during renovations. The three slabs had been used as jamb stones in the chancel arch with their faces turned inwards which has preserved them.
