Iodine solubility. Test tube with a mixture of water, cyclohexane and iodine. The iodine has dissolved in cyclohexane, a non-polar solvent, to form a purple solution. Iodine does not readily dissolve in water, a polar solvent. As water and cyclohexane are immiscible (will not mix), the two solutions have separated to form two distinct layers.
