Sea krait (Laticauda sp.) surfacing for air. Kraits use their flattened tails to help propel themseves through the water. Although well adapted to life underwater, kraits surface regularly to fill their elongated lungs with air. Unlike other species of sea snakes, kraits return to land to lay their eggs. They are naturally inquisitive and will readily approach divers and attempt physical contact. However they are extremely venomous and they are able to paralyse their prey. Photographed near Biak, West Papua in Indonesia, Asia.
