The London Studios in Waterloo, Central London is a television studio complex formerly owned by London Weekend Television. The studios are located in Central London and is situated on the South Bank next door to The IBM Building and the Royal National Theatre. Since January 2013, the studio complex has been owned by ITV programmes which it bought for £56 million. The studios are now be used for ITV's headquarters. The facilities are the main studios for ITV, with some programmes from various other channels including BBC and Channel 4 using the studios also. The South Bank is an area of Central London, England located immediately adjacent to the south bank of the River Thames. It forms a long and narrow section of riverside development within the London Borough of Lambeth and the London Borough of Southwark. It developed much more slowly than the north bank of the river due to adverse conditions, and throughout its history has twice functioned as an entertainment district, separated by a hundred years of use as a location for industry. Change to the current use of the South Bank began in 1917 with the construction of County Hall at Lambeth and the Festival of Britain in 1951 redefined the area as a place for arts and entertainment. It now forms a significant tourist district in central London, stretching from the Design Museum in the east to the London Eye in the west. A series of central London bridges connect the area to the northern bank of the Thames, including the more recent Golden Jubilee and Millennium pedestrian bridges. Southbank Centre is a complex of artistic venues in London, on the South Bank of the River Thames between County Hall and Waterloo Bridge. It comprises three main buildings (the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Hayward Gallery), and is Europe’s largest centre for the arts. It attracts more than three million visitors annually.
