Space Shuttle Challenger memorial in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, USA. The memorial commemorates the seven crew members who died when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded during launch on 28 January 1986. Identified remains were given individual burials, while the unidentified remains were interred at this burial plot on 20 May 1986. The memorial depicts the faces of the seven astronauts surrounding the Space Shuttle Challenger, along with their names, role, US state, and birth date. Below this is a tribute to the crew and the date of the disaster. The memorial, made from bronze and marble, was dedicated at a ceremony on 21 March 1987.
