H. Jackson, the whole under com-mand of Lieut,-Gen N, B. Forrest, succeeded in checking the pursuit made by the Unionforces, and enabled the army to cross the Tennessee river in comparative safety. Toomuch praise cannot be given both Gens Walthall and Jackson and their determinedcommands tor their skill, fortitude and dashing bravery.
