Donald Lynden-Bell (born 1935), British astrophysicist. Lynden-Bell has worked on theories of galactic structure, quasars, black holes, galactic jets and general relativity. He is Emeritus Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge, and has been President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1985-1987). His awards include the Eddington Medal (1984), the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society (1993) and the Bruce Gold Medal (1998). He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1978, and made CBE in 2000. An asteroid has been named in his honour. Photographed in 2008, in his study at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge, UK.
