Two Babas in traditional orange robes sit on the steps of a Hindu temple in Varanasi. Pigeons fly overhead in the afternoon sun

Two Babas in traditional orange robes sit on the steps of a Hindu temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, overlooking the sacred ganges river as the afternoon sun lowers in the sky. The steps empty onto a Ghat along the Ganges riverbank, and pigeons fly overhead. The Babas, or Sadhus, are Hindu followers of Brahman, and live an ascetic life devoted to achieving moksha; release from the cycle of life and death. Hindu temples are designed to reflect the contsruct and functioning of the universe.
