The acidosis index is of considerable value in those cases in whichalkali is being administered. On the alkali days the ammonia output isusually greatly diminished and yet the index may be as great or evengreater than on the non-alkali davs. This denotes a lar2:e excretion ofacetone bodies combined with the alkali, which has temporarily lessenedthe need for the large ammonia production.
