Nevada, USA, true-colour satellite image. North is at top. Vegetation is green, barren land is brown and water is blue. Nevada is one of the western US States. Most of it lies within the Great Basin, a region without drainage to the sea, which lies between the mountains of California (left) and of Utah (right). The landscape consists of mountain ranges (green) running north-south, separated by desert valleys (brown). Part of the Mojave Desert forms the southern tip of the state. The Colorado River forms this southern boundary. Part of the Columbia Plateau (green) forms the north-eastern part of the state.
