The Plymouth Colony held possession of the place forabout six years, though not without some June, 1632, a French vessel, commanded by a French-man from Nova Scotia, visited the place during the tem-porary absence of the commander of the station with mostof his men, and attacking the few remaining keepers ofthe trading-house, compelled them to surrender. Afterseizing property to the value of £500 they left, with amessage to Allerton to rem
