19th April 2017, Elephant and Castle, London, UK: Protestors gather at the former council estate at Elephant & Castle, which was demolished by developers who want to rebrand the site ‘Elephant Park’.  A new report by Transparency International, looking at the site, finds “the number of South Gardens units sold abroad is 51 out of 51 properties, as per Land Registry documents”. The campaign group Defend Council Housing say that “The scandal in this is not that the buyers are foreign investors, but that they are INVESTORS, not people in the local area, of all ethnictities, who need somewhere to live.” Jerry Flyyn (35% Campaign) who lived on the Heygate says "We have been cheated out of the affordable housing we were promised and thousands of households across Southwark, from all ethnic backgrounds, are being denied decent housing because of it.’
