For succession, sow at intervals of r. fortnight until the last week of July, from which time until the end of August sowings will be made for main and late crops. The sowings should always be done just before rain if possible, a rapid growth being important. WHITE FLESHED SORTS, ^/^xtra Early Purple Top Milan. The earliest turnip in cultivation and a splendid variety; a favorite with gardeners who want first turnips in market. Bulb white, flat, of medium size, with a bright purple top. ^'JV'hite Egg. Its shape is nearly oval or egg; flesh very firm and fine-grained, thin and perfectly smooth skin, and both flesh and skin are of snowy whiteness. Early White Flat Dutch, Strap Leaf. A flat white sort, very sweet and fine-grained; excellent for garden culture and most beautiful. ^^feed, or Purple Top, Strap Leaved. The most widely cultivated and best known variety. Used largely for sowing broadcast among corn and potatoes. It is round and flat, white on the bottom and a reddish purple above ground, and a very quick grower. Though used mainly for stock-feeding, it is highly esteemed as one of the \^ finest table varieties. Purple Top White Globe. An early variety, globe-shaped; heavy cropper; in other respects similar to the Red Top Strap Leaf. A handsome-looking bulb, and is rapidly taking the lead of all other varieties of early turnip for market garden purposes. ^^arge Red Top Norfolk.
