In the battle of Adwa, depicted here, the invading Italian colonial army was defeated by the Ethiopians in one of the greatest battles in the history of Africa on March 1, 1896. Housing the University of OxfordÕs vast collections of art and antiquities, the Ashmolean Museum was established in 1683 and is the oldest museum in the United Kingdom.
