Dominating both Senate Square and the centre of Helsinki, Finland, this prominent Finnish Lutheran Church is designed in a strictly neoclassical manner. Built originally from 1830-1850 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, it reverted to its current name when Finland eventually gained independence from Russia in 1917.
