The motive power of the locomotive is 2,200 I1. p., although for short periods a con-siderably greater power may be developed, making it more powerfulthan the largest steam locomotive in existence. The armatures arc mounted rigidly upon the axles, thus reducingthe bearings to those of the pony trucks and the main journals, allof which are outside of the driving wheels. The motor has twopoles with flat faces so as to permit a large relative vertical move-ment between armature and poles as the latter move up and downwith the riding of the frame upon the springs. The main frame is of cast steel, and forms not only the mechanicalframe of the locomotive but also part of the magnetic circuit of theIUctric motors. The armatures are arranged in tandem, the end. .XKMATfRE MlUNTKl) ON , polt pieces being cast as .)f the r\u\ frames and the double \>nU-pieces between the armatures being carried by heavy steel tran-soms bolted to the side frame and forming part of the magneticcircuit as well as cross braces for the truck.
