Muslim boys in a coranic school ("madarsa") ( India)
Boys belonging to a salafist "madarsa". Salafism is associated with a literal and puritanical approach to islamic theology. In western countries, salafism is commonly understood as a minority whose members, since the mid-1990s, approve the violent "jihad" against the civilians. This is a revivalist movement (It appeared in the 18° in Saudi Arabia.) whose members think Islam preached by Muhammad and practised by its firsts followers was pure, unadulterated. They consider themselves as the real followers of the prophet teachings. As staunch monotheists, they condemn many muslim practices which are now common such as venerating the graves of islamic saints. They reject speculative theology, the usage of debate in the development of the islamic creed ; they abstain from innovative beliefs and practices. Contrary to other islamic revival movements, they reject western ideologies (socialism, liberalism) and concepts (economics, civil or state laws, political parties).
