(c.) Hornblende Andesites.—Hornblende andesites have a fairly wide range within the areas of the Second Period volcanics, both as pyroclastic and massive rocks. The amphibole, however, is acharacteristic mineral of many of the intrusions of this period, and, as already stated, it is not possibleto discriminate in every case between lava-flows and dykes. The localities where these rocks have been identified either by Sollas and McKay or by the writersmay be submitted. Hyalofilitic hornblende andesites occur at— Sugar Loaf Headland (Moehau Survey District): As inclusions
