Eta Carinae over Paranal Observatory. Eta Carinae (above and left of centre) is an emission nebula. In the foreground is the white dome of La Residencia, the living quarters for those working at the ESO (European Southern Observatory)'s Paranal Observatory, the site of the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile's Atacama Desert. This site is located on Cerro Paranal at an altitude of 2600 metres. Photographed on 17 October 2015.
