All-sky galactic map, NED Catalog. This map is based on the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED). IPAC is the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center, part of the work carried out by Caltech, JPL and NASA. The data here includes over 100 million galaxies. The colours represent the density of sources, from low (blue) through medium (green) to as high as million sources per square degree of sky (light yellow). Across centre is the band of the Milky Way galaxy. Surveys that form part of the database include the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the Galactic Legacy Infrared Mid-Plane Survey Extraordinaire (GLIMPSE) survey. Image published in 2017.
