G F Watts' Memorial of Heroic Deeds in Postman's Park, London
The G F Watts Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice was created by the Victorian artist George Frederic Watts and unveiled in 1900. Watts believed that the records of those who had lost their lives trying to save others provided models of exemplary behaviour and character. Only 13 tablets had been completed during Watts' lifetime but the installation of a further 35 was overseen by his wife. In 2009 the memorial tablet to Leigh Pitt was added - the first in 78 years. The memorial is sited in Postman's Park near St Paul's Cathedral.
